Website Launch & Christmas Plans

Can't believe it's been almost 4 months since I started working on this website! Finally got all the pages done and everything looks pretty good (if I do say so myself). Sarah helped me proofread everything - she caught like 20 spelling mistakes. Oops!

Speaking of Sarah, we're planning our first Christmas together as a couple. She wants to get a real tree, and I'm terrified I'm going to kill it. I've never kept a plant alive for more than a week, but hey, there's a first time for everything, right?

Also, I think I'm going to ask her parents if I can join them for Christmas dinner. Is that too soon? We've been together for over a year, but meeting the parents still makes me nervous. What if they don't like me? What if I spill something on their tablecloth? (Knowing me, I probably will.)

Today's lesson: Building a website is harder than I thought, but totally worth it when people start visiting and leaving nice comments!

Sarah's Birthday Success!

Sarah's birthday party was AMAZING! I was so worried about planning it, but everything went perfectly. Well, almost perfectly - I did accidentally buy vanilla cake instead of chocolate (her favorite), but she said she didn't mind.

The best part was when I gave her the photo album I made with pictures from our first year together. She actually cried happy tears! I included the receipt from our first mini golf date, ticket stubs from movies we've seen, and even a napkin from Java Joe's (the coffee shop where we met).

Her friends all said I was "such a keeper." I'm pretty sure I blushed for like an hour straight.

Today's lesson: It's not about spending a lot of money - it's about showing you pay attention to the little things that matter to them.

Thanksgiving Thoughts

Just got back from Thanksgiving dinner at my parents' house. Sarah came with me, and I think my mom likes her more than she likes me now! They spent the whole time talking about gardening and sharing recipes.

It's weird how natural it felt having Sarah there with my family. Like she's always been part of it. Is this what people mean when they talk about "the one"? Because if so, I think I get it now.

My dad pulled me aside and said, "Don't mess this up, son." Thanks for the pressure, Dad! But honestly, I don't plan on messing anything up. Sarah makes me want to be a better person.

Today's lesson: When you find someone who fits seamlessly into your life and makes everything better, hold onto them tight.

Cooking Disaster #47

Tried to surprise Sarah with a homemade dinner tonight. Key word: TRIED. I don't know how I managed to burn spaghetti, but I did. The smoke alarm went off, the neighbors came to check if we were okay, and Sarah had to open all the windows.

But you know what? Sarah just laughed and ordered pizza. Then she said, "Next time, let's cook together." Not "don't ever cook again" or "stick to takeout." She wants to TEACH me. How did I get so lucky?

We ended up having the best night just eating pizza on the floor and talking about everything and nothing. Sometimes the best dates are the ones that don't go according to plan.

Today's lesson: The right person will love you even when you're a disaster in the kitchen. Maybe especially then.

One Year Anniversary!

Can't believe it's been exactly one year since Sarah and I became "official"! We celebrated by going back to the same costume party where I first asked her to be my girlfriend. This time I went as a pirate and she was a fairy. (Much better costume choices than last year!)

We slow danced to the same song - "Unchained Melody" - and I told her the story of how nervous I was that night a year ago. She said she knew I was going to ask her something because I kept fidgeting with my vampire cape.

A whole year! It feels like yesterday and forever at the same time. Here's to many more years of terrible costumes and slow dancing.

Today's lesson: Celebrating milestones doesn't have to be fancy - sometimes the most meaningful celebrations are the ones that bring you back to where it all started.
